10 Days Tour from Tangier

Overview:

We will begin our 10 days tour from Tangier and travel through traditional villages to Chefchaouen, also known as the blue city. Following that, we will visit the imperial city of Meknes, the Berber Roman ruins at Volubilis, and spend a full day in Fes with a local guide. 

Crossing through the middle Atlas via Ifrane (the Moroccan Switzerland), Azrou, cedar forest, passing by several towns. Midelt (the capital of apples), Tizi N’Talghomt Pass (1907m), Valley of the palm grove, Erfoud, and overnight in a Berber tent. Then we will take another way to Marrakech passing through Rissani Market, Todra gorge, Dades gorge, and Ait ben Haddou With a native guide.

This 10 days tour from Tangier will include the exploration of two main Moroccan tourist destinations. Marrakech and Essaouira to be the two last points you are going to visit before closing this magnificent journey.

Tour Plan:

Day 1: Tangier » Chefchaouen [112 km]

During the first day of your 10 days tour from Tangier, we will be waiting for you at the airport or picking you up from your accommodation to start the journey. We are going to discover the capital of the north, Tangier city. It is one of the biggest cities in Morocco that has different sites to visit. The cave of Hercules, the kasbah and the old part of the city (old medina). 

Lunch in a restaurant that serves local food. After we will move directly to the city of Chefchaouen, 80 km away from Tangier, also called “the Blue Pearl”. An attractive town that is very well known for the blue colors of the streets, walls, and staircases. There we will spend the night in a local hotel with dinner.

Day 2: Chefchaouen » Volubilis » Meknes » Fes [260 km]

The second day of our 10 days tour from Tangier will lead us from Chefchaouen to a new destination to discover. Before leaving the city we will discover the narrow blue-painted streets and take a lovely pictures. We will then move south directly toward the old Roman city ruins (Volubilis) to see the old civilization architecture and take pictures between pillars. 

After a few minutes of driving, we will be in Meknes city, an imperial city that is full of historical sites. The Bab Mansour, one of the biggest doors in Africa which belong hundreds of years ago. Fes will be our next destination.

We will leave Meknes after lunch and be in Fes in one hour of driving. Arriving to the hotel or Riad to have dinner and spend the night here.

Day 3: Fes Sightseeing with a local guide

Welcome to the old Moroccan city where you will have the entire day exploring Fes. The imperial capital of Morocco and a rich cultural heritage. We will start by exploring the old Medina of Fes with the help of a local guide. We will see the traditional souks, the royal palace’s gates, and Karaouine University. In actuality, the Quaraouiyine is still in operation and is the oldest university in the world. 

We will continue our tour after lunch at a typical Moroccan restaurant. We will visit the Batha Museum and the Nejjarine Fountain. Before we return to our Riad in the evening, we will will stop at a café or a terrace to watch the sunset.

Day 4: Fes » Ifrane » Azrou » Midelt » Merzouga Desert [477 km]

The next morning, we start early from Fes and cross the Middle Atlas to get to Merzouga. We will stop in the village of Ifrane, popularly referred to as the Switzerland of Morocco, before traveling to the forests of Azrou. Here we will witness wild macaque monkeys. 

Lunch at Midelt City, the geographic heart of the Middle Atlas, before continuing our journey. As we pass through the breathtaking Ziz Valley we will have quick stops to take some pictures. 

Later, we will pass by the arid villages of Erfoud on our approach to Merzouga, the gateway to the Erg Chebbi desert. You will enjoy the stunning desert surroundings before arriving to the hotel where we will spend the night.

Day 5: Merzouga Sightseeing [60 km]

We will have a great time discovering Merzouga surroundings and discovering more about the desert culture on this day of our excursion. First, a short 4×4 journey across the dunes will take us to the old Khamlia town. The masters of Gnaoua music reside in Khamlia, which explains why the settlement is so significant to the region. 

Following this, we will make a brief stop at Serji Lake. Home to various seasonal birds like pink flamingos, before going to a nomad family in the desert to discover more about their way of life and culture. 

Following the lunch, we will return to Merzouga and spend some time relaxing there. Be ready for a camel ride through the dunes. After arriving at the private desert camp, we will enjoy a delicious traditional dinner and spend the remain of the evening dancing with local music. 

Day 6: Merzouga » Rissani » Todra Gorges » Dades Gorges [271 km]

You will need to get up early this morning to witness the magnificent sunrise over the dunes. Then we will take the camels back to our accommodation in Merzouga where we may have a shower and eat breakfast. 

A short drive to Rissani town, where you will have time to explore the largest market in the area. Then we head to the renowned Todra Gorges, a trekking destination that draws tourists from all over the world. 

After lunch, we will take a trip to the valley of Dades to visit the area known as “the road of the thousand Kasbahs” before making our way to the riad, where we’ll spend the night.

Day 7: Dades Gorges » Ouarzazate » Ait Ben Haddou » Marrakech [330 km]

After delicious breakfast at the hotel we will move to the many Kasbahs of Ouarzazate, a popular filming location. We will stop in Kalaat Mgouna, the heart of the Rose Valley, where we visit the regional cooperative for the rose business. 

Next stop is the Ait Ben Haddou, a kasbah constructed in the 19th century by Et Hami El Glaoui and now included as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Et Hami El Glaoui, one of the last Berber chieftains, constructed it in the 19th century, and it is now home to numerous Glaoui people. 

Last but not least, we head for Marrakech, where you will spend the night in a riad and get ready for the guided city tour the following day.

Day 8: Marrakech Sightseeing with a local guide

On this day, after breakfast, you will have a city tour of Marrakech with a knowledgeable tour guide. The grand Koutoubia Mosque, a Marrakech landmark that served as an influence for other buildings such as the Giralda in Seville and the Hassan Tower in Rabat, kicks off the journey. Your next visit is to the Bahia Palace and the Saadian Tombs. We will make sure to visit the tomb where around sixty members of the Saadian Dynasty, which originated in the valley of the Draa River, are interred. 

After lunch we will scroll on the well-known Jemaa El Fna Square, where you can find a wide range of treats as well as snake charmers, local singers, and fortune tellers. The great square of old Marrakech, the Jemaa el Fna, is unlike any other site on Earth. 

Day 9: Marrakech » Essaouira [191 km]

We will take a private excursion to the gorgeous city of Essaouira on the day before the last day of your journey. We will depart from Marrakech and travel through the lovely fields of argan trees. Occasionally, we may be able to see wild lambs scaling Argan trees to reach their nuts. 

Our time here will be spent exploring the city’s historic Medina and the Portuguese and Andalusian architecture. Keep an eye out for Essaouira’s Old Medina, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Overall, we will explore the town before returning to our lodging for the night.

Day 10: Marrakech » Airport

After breakfast on the final day of our 10 days Morocco trip, we will head back to Marrakech. We will make sure you’ve visited all the tourist attractions you wanted to see and had one of the best tours throughout Morocco.
