Imlil Day Trip from Marrakech

Our Imlil day trip departure from Marrakech at approximately 9 in the morning, as we set forth on a 90 minute car ride. Our route traces the southern path through the breathtaking Moulay Brahim Gorges. Notably, if your adventure aligns with a Saturday, you’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of the weekly market in Asni a truly exhilarating experience!

Our ultimate destination is the charming village of Imlil (1,740m), nestled in the upper foothills of the Western High Atlas mountains. Serving as a primary trailhead, Imlil unfolds with streams and paths branching out in every direction. Upon reaching Imlil, we’ll pause our journey, leaving our vehicle behind to indulge in a moment of tranquility over a refreshing glass of mint tea in the village. Here, you’ll also have the chance to meet your knowledgeable local guide, a key companion for the upcoming 4 km excursion.

Setting off towards the south, your local guide will lead you to the Berber village of Aroumd (1,843m). The trek unfolds amidst the breathtaking landscapes, passing through the hamlets of Ait Souka and Targa Imoula, navigating the stark slopes and marveling at the jagged peaks of the Toubkal Massif Jbels Aguelzim (3,547m), Aksouâl (3,847m), and the Adrar Adj (3,122m) constantly watching over our trip.

Aroumd is a significant stop along the way, offering a chance to explore the historic village in the Assif Aït Mizane Valley. Perched upon a large moraine spur, this village overlooks ancient irrigated terraced fields of barley, corn, and vegetables, surrounded by the timeless presence of walnut trees.

Continuing our trek for another half an hour, we’ll pause for a well deserved lunch, prepared by a welcoming Berber family in the village of Achayn. After the delightful meal, the journey descends the opposite side of the valley, leading us back to Imlil, marking the conclusion of an enriching adventure before our return to Marrakech.
